Carlo Carlesi has worked since december 1969 at the IEI of the Italian National Research Council in Pisa.
He has worked in many software engineering field such as:

- Italian Project for Research in the Antartic – (South Pole project), the aim of the project was the creation of a Multidisciplinary Integrated Information System to manage and query the Set of Antarctic Data Bases;
- ERCIM Technical Reference Digital Library – (”ETRDL Project"), The Digital Library service allows public access through Internet to the technical reports and other not published document produced by several organizations
- OCTOPUS – An architecture designed to develop a centralized system for the management and archiving multiformed digital documents (collection) produced and managed autonomously by several institutions (authority).
- PUMA – Publication Management. The Digital Library service allows public access (when permitted) through Internet to the published documents produced by several organizations.
- EU-Project – Publication Management. The Digital Library service allows public access (when permitted) through Internet to the published documents produced by several organizations.
- LVDL – Publication Management. LVDL is a digital thematic archive created for the multidisciplinary documentation arising from the scientific studies on the Venice Lagoon.
- MeCME – Publication Management. MeCME-DL is a digital library made up in order to collect multidisciplinary documentation concerning scientific studies in the Mediterranean coastal areas and in particular in the Southern one, including also specific studies on the Taranto gulf (Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo).
- GreyGuide – Guide to Goog Practices and Resources in Grey Literature. An online forum and repository of good practice in the field of grey literature.
- GreyGuiderep – Repository Articles and Resources in Grey Literature. An online repository of open source article in the field of grey literature.
- CSCE – CSCE Web-Site Collection. Centro Studi Calcolatrici Elettroniche [1954-1968].
